Globally, the market for supplements related to mood and sleep health is also maintaining a growth trend. WISE GUY data shows that the mood-enhancing supplements market is expected to grow from USD 22.66 billion in 2024 to USD 34.21 billion by 2032, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 5.28% during the forecast period.
Japan Market
Globally, Japan is one of the most mature markets for emotional wellness and stress management products. Driven by an aging population and a high-pressure social environment, Japanese consumers show strong acceptance of functional foods and supplements that support sleep, relieve stress, and enhance mood. According to statistics, in the first half of 2025 (as of June 30, 2025), the Consumer Affairs Agency of Japan approved 120 products claiming benefits for mood, stress, or fatigue improvement, and 82 products claiming sleep enhancement.

U.S. Market
Compared with Japan, U.S. consumers show a stronger preference for natural plant extracts, adaptogens, and mineral-based ingredients. An analysis of Amazon's Top 100 best-selling products in the vitamins, minerals, and supplements (VMS) category shows that the leading ingredients in the relaxation, stress relief, and sleep segments include Magnesium, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine.
Ashwagandha has long been one of the most popular ingredients in the emotional wellness category. According to SPINS data, in the 52 weeks ending October 8, 2023, sales of functional beverages containing Ashwagandha in the U.S. natural and conventional channels reached USD 19 million, representing a year-over-year growth of 100.3%.

With a history of use in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years, Ashwagandha is recognized as an adaptogenic herb commonly associated with stress relief, sleep support, and immune health. In a clinical trial involving 491 participants with anxiety or high stress levels, those who supplemented with Ashwagandha for 6 to 8 weeks showed significantly lower stress and anxiety scores compared to the placebo group, along with improvements in insomnia and fatigue.
China Market
China has a long tradition of food-based wellness and tonic practices. When facing stress, anxiety, or sleep problems, consumers are more inclined to turn to traditional "food-medicine homology" ingredients for relief. According to an iResearch report, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) wellness remains one of the primary approaches for emotional regulation. However, the domestic emotional wellness supplements market is still at an early stage. Dedicated mood-support products are relatively limited, with most positioned to work synergistically with sleep-improving formulas.
Based on data from the Special Food Information Query Platform, as of August 15, 2025, there were 705 registered health food products in China claiming to "improve sleep." The leading ingredients include Semen Ziziphi Spinosae (399 products), Ganoderma lucidum (126), Melatonin (123), Poria cocos (109), Gastrodia elata (77), and Lily bulb (67).
