What is Vitamin B5?
Vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that is found in at least a small amount in almost all foods. For example eggs, potatoes, avocados, mushrooms, etc. When found in food, most pantothenic acid is in the form of CoA or bound to an acyl carrier protein (ACP). In order for intestinal cells to absorb this vitamin, it must be converted into free pantothenic acid. Therefore, D-pantothenic acid is widely used in dietary supplements.
