1.Introduction
L-carnitine is also called carnitine and vitamin BT. 25% of the carnitine of human body weight is synthesized by itself, and 75% of carnitine is exogenous, which is ingested from food.L-Carnitine has two stereoisomers—L-carnitine and D-carnitine—which have the same molecular formula (C7H15NO3), but different three-dimensional shapes. It is the biologically active isomer and naturally found at relatively high concentrations in certain foods such as red meat, beans, and avocado. However, depending upon diet, age, and other factors, supplementation of carnitine may be needed to maintain adequate levels in the body.

3.Mechanisms of Action
■ Promote fatty acid oxidation
■ Regulate the movement of ATP and ADP in the inner mitochondrial membrane
■ Significantly improve the level of aerobic exercise
4.Function
■ Loss weight:
High concentration of carnitine can improve the utilization of fat energy. The most important function of carnitine is to act as a carrier to transport long-chain fatty acids from outside the mitochondria to the cell membrane.
■ Anorexia:
To accelerate body weight gain, normalize gastrointestinal function, decrease fatigue, and improve physical performance.
■ Athletic Performance:
A clinical study reported improved running speed and decreased average oxygen consumption and heart rate following prolonged supplementation.
■ Cardiovascular Disease (Angina and Ischemia):
L-carnitine (oral doses ranging from 900-3,000 mg daily) has been shown to moderately improve exercise tolerance and reduce ECG indices of ischemia in patients with stable angina.
■ Hyperlipidemia:
It (2-3 g daily) resulted in improved lipid profiles in individuals with hyperlipidemia, with reductions in total and LDL-cholesterol and increased plasma apolipoprotein A-1 and B levels.
